Marco Kotrotsos argues that many simple software products are becoming easier to replace with AI-built tools.
He explains that he used Claude to create his own dithering app instead of immediately buying a commercial one. Kotrotsos says this pattern is already happening in many areas, where people and companies replace paid software with custom AI-made solutions.
He believes simple, single-user tools are most at risk because they are easy to describe and build with AI.
More complex software, such as enterprise systems, will survive longer because it needs maintenance, security, support, and integrations.
He also admits that AI-built tools can create problems, such as security risks and code that is hard to maintain. Overall, Kotrotsos says software will not disappear, but many simple subscription products must prove why they are worth paying for.
